Does hell provide eternal life?

Something that I frequently wrestle with is the prevailing Christian idea of hell as eternal torment. There are vivid passages that support this (Mark 9:48), but there are also passages supporting the view that refusing God ultimately results in destruction (Matt 10:28).

If hell is a place eternal torment...

1. Are people aware (conscious) in hell?

How can there be torment if there is no awareness?

2. Does human awareness imply life?

How can there be awareness without life?

3. If people condemned to hell are eternally aware, does that mean they have eternal life?
